Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?
No. You do not need a diagnosis to begin therapy.
Many people seek therapy to better understand their emotions, cope with stress, or navigate life changes, even when they are not experiencing a specific mental health condition.
For example, you might feel overwhelmed at work, stuck in a life transition, or unsure why certain patterns keep repeating. Therapy can offer space to explore these experiences without the need for a formal label.
How do I know whether I should start with therapy or an assessment?
You don’t have to decide this on your own. Therapy focuses on support and change over time, while assessment focuses on understanding and clarification.
For example:
- If you are seeking coping strategies or emotional support, therapy may be appropriate.
- If you are looking for clarity around attention, mood, learning, or emotional functioning, an assessment may be helpful.
Our practitioners will discuss your concerns during the first session and guide you towards the option that best fits your needs.
Should I attend a session with a Counsellor or a Clinical Psychologist?
Both Counsellors and Clinical Psychologists provide professional, talk-based mental health support, and both work with individuals experiencing emotional and life challenges. The difference lies mainly in the focus and scope of their training.
A Counsellor is trained to support individuals with everyday concerns such as stress, emotional regulation, relationship difficulties, work-related challenges, and life transitions.
A Clinical Psychologist is trained to work for a more complex issue or clinical presentations such as managing bipolar disorders and ongoing anger management. Clinical Psychologists also conduct psychological assessments and diagnoses.
If you are unsure which practitioner that is right for you, we would recommend attending the 30 minutes Mental Health Screening, or contacting us via WhatsApp.
