Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy, also known as counselling or psychotherapy, is a collaborative process aimed at addressing various mental health concerns, including family issues, relationships, career challenges, mental illnesses, and overall mental well-being. Therapy is often conducted by professionals or experts in their respective areas, such as counsellors, clinical psychologists, speech therapists, and occupational therapists.

Our therapists utilize psychological approaches to guide you through your sessions such as but not limited to  :

  • Acceptance Commitment Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Emotional Focused Therapy
  • Person Centred Therapy
  • Somatic Therapy

Diagnosis and assessment involve providing scientifically proven screening tests, assessments, and psychometric tools. These tools are used to measure, evaluate, and diagnose various aspects of the client’s psychological condition such as behaviour, cognition, personality, abilities, and more.

Our assessment services include:

  • Career Assessment
  • IQ Assessment
  • Psychological Assessment

In short,

  • Choose therapy if you are looking for: guidance, support, and strategies to address personal or emotional challenges.
  • Choose assessment if you are seeking for:  thorough evaluation and diagnosis of specific aspects of your psychological condition.

We use the term ‘Therapists’ to refer to all our mental health professionals. Each of these professionals plays an important role in addressing various aspects of mental health and well-being.

  • Psychiatrist is a medically-trained doctor who specialises in treating mental illnesses. They use a combination of therapy, pharmaceuticals, and sometimes even surgical methods. Their focus is on diagnosing and treating conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other severe mental health disorders. Psychiatrist can prescribe medications and provide medical interventions. Currently, MINDAKAMI does not provide psychiatrist.
  • Clinical psychologist holds at least master’s degree in psychology. They focus on assessing, diagnosing, and treating various mental and emotional issues. Clinical psychologists use evidence-based therapies to help clients manage their symptoms and improve their well-being. They do not prescribe medications.
  • Counsellor typically holds bachelors’ degree or master’s degree in counselling, guidance, or related fields. They offer goal-oriented therapy to address general life challenges, stress, relationship issues, grief, and more. Counsellors may specialise in areas like marriage and family therapy, substance abuse, or career counselling.
  • Speech Therapist holds bachelor’s degree in speech therapy. They focus on helping individuals to improve speech, language, and swallowing abilities through therapy techniques. They work with individuals with speech delays, strokes recovery, and people with voice or fluency issues.
  • Occupational Therapist holds bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy. Occupational therapists assist individuals in regaining or developing skills necessary for daily living and working, addressing physical, mental, and emotional barriers that may impede their ability to engage in meaningful activities. Occupational therapists address activities of daily living (ADLs), fine motor skills, sensory processing, and adaptive technique.

When seeking mental health services, it’s important to choose a therapist who aligns with your needs, preferences, and therapeutic goals. We have created a simple quiz to assist you in making this decision.
